Landscapes of Polarization Microscopy

When oriented molecules such as crystalline chemicals are placed between two polarizing filters, the crystals exhibit amazing colored landscapes or subtle patterns. Shown approximately 10 to 50 times actual size, the chemicals on this page were photographed between "crossed" polarizing filters.
